Xubuntu goes Embedded

For some reason, my random surfing made me discover the Linutop system, a diskless computer powered by an AMD Geode processor (similar to what the XO-1 is using). I was surprised to know that the Linutop is powered by a customized version of Xubuntu (although stored in a separate 1GB USB stick). The target use of the Linutop is for web surfing, but I can see it being usable for POS and with enough hacking, even telematics.

Ah I wish i could get one but it seems to be only available for Europe now. Perhaps I should investigate on getting my own SBC kit in the future.

The Linutop was already mentioned on my blog, which is also syndicated on the Debian planet.

Martin, like I mentioned in my blog, I just discovered it, so I didn't know much about it before that, or may have forgotten in the past. But then it's still an interesting device I would use if the need arises!

I'm writting this comment using a linutop :)
I've tested a bunch of things with it: internet browsing, instant messaging, ssh client, apache/postfix server... You can do a lot of things with it if you're a geek, but its main advantage is certainly that you can surf the web 5 minutes after you received it, even if you've almost never used a computer before.
